The Wapsi was up last weekend and the weather was great. Cat fishing was OK but I enjoyed my time on the river. Fish were hitting on stink and worms and staying close to the banks. This coming weekend sounds like another great weekend for fishing.
Something for the new guy.
Try putting a little stink bait in with your worms about a week before you plan on going fishing. The worms will eat the stink bait and get that in there system and guess what the catfish seam to really hit on the worms after that.
The Wapsi may be up but you still need to keep an eye out for new snags.
watch for new sand bars and trees that may come crashing down on you and your boat. I see newly fallen trees all the time.
Well sir that's all till next week till then Good Fishing

New to Wapsi fishing
This will be my first posting and with your help there will be many more. There is allot of great fishing on and around the Wapsi river. There are things a new fisherman may want to know before venturing out on the Wapsi and I hope to help you out with that. There are things I learn every time I go fishing and I hope to find people who have fished the Wapsi for years that will teach me tricks that they have learned over the years.
First of all for you that have never fished or have not had a boat on the Wapsi speed is not your Friend. You need to read the river. So the slower you go the better.
Second a Jon boat(flat bottom) is the boat for you motor size nothing smaller than a 4hp and you really don't need anything bigger than a 9.5hp. There are a lot of snags and sand bars that will slow you down if you go slow you can see were the trouble spots are so go slow.
thirdly find yourself some brush grips(they almost look lick vice grips with teeth) instead of using an anchor(anchors get trapped or snagged in the under brush)Brush grips work great tie the line that comes with the each one to the front of the boat that way the front will always be going against the current and then all you have to do is sit down and enjoy your fishing.
